Greenland Wax has been made since the end of the 1960's by the same family business in Fjällräven hometown, Örnsköldsvik. The recipe is secret but the ingredients are simple: pure paraffin and high-quality beeswax. The paraffin is melted in a large pot (it is actually the same pot that has been used since the 1960's). When the paraffin has reached the proper temperature, blocks of beeswax are added and everything is mixed together. The mixture is then poured into forms where it can cool before being packed into cardboard boxes.
Greenland Wax contains only paraffin and beeswax - there are no chemical additives. This means that the wax is a more environmentally friendly alternative than chemical-based impregnation products. Paraffin is an oil-based product. It is not dangerous to use and does not irritate the skin – instead it has a softening effect and helps the skin maintain its moisture and elasticity. Paraffin is used in skin care products, cosmetics and physiotherapeutic treatment of, for example, arthritis. The beeswax is completely natural - it comes from apiaries and is a by-product of honey production.
Greenland Wax increases the durability of G-1000. It extends the life of the garment significantly, which means that jackets and trousers can accompany their owners on adventures for many years. It is not unusual for these garments to be passed from one generation to the next.
